Recent Posts
As a Principal Research Fellow at School of Engineering, RMIT University, I lead industrial AI innovation, bridging the gap between research and real-world applications. My research focuses on Large Language Models, Knowledge Representation Learning, Cognitive Agents, and Embodied AI, along with their applications.
Before joining RMIT, I held principal leadership roles in the technology sector, leading AI research and development teams focused on generative AI and enterprise AI solutions. As Director and Principal Research Scientist at the IT Innovation and Research Center (IIRC), Huawei Technologies, I supervised multiple research labs and led projects on Large Language Models, Multimodal Learning, Cognitive Agents, and AIOps. I was responsible for defining corporate technology strategies, directing high-impact AI initiatives, and managing a research portfolio exceeding $10 million USD. My leadership spanned early-stage innovation, prototyping, and the deployment of AI-driven solutions in large-scale commercial products. In my previous role at Huawei as the Director and Principal AI Scientist at AI Application Research Center (AARC) and Product Manager of Artificial General Intelligence (UniAGI), I led a team of over 50 research scientists and engineers in developing and deploying cutting-edge AI services, with a strong focus on translating advanced research into scalable AI products.
Earlier Experience
Prior to joining Huawei, I was a senior lecturer of business analytics at La Trobe University (2016-19), a senior data scientist at Telstra, and a technical lead data scientist at Lenovo. I worked as a senior data mining analyst at AUSTRAC from 2010 to 2013, applying machine learning to combat money laundering and other organized financial crimes. I was a research fellow with RMIT University (2008-10) focusing on applying AI to smart grid and knowledge-based engineering after my postdoctoral research works with CSIRO ICT Centre.
Academics
An active contributor to the AI research community, I have published over 70 peer-reviewed AI papers, holds multiple patents, and serves on top AI conference committees such as ACL, EMNLP, AAAI, and NAACL. My passion in Generative AI, including Intelligent Assistants, Agents, and Large Language Models, continues to drive human-centric AI solutions that enhance industrial efficiency and human intelligence.
Commercial Development
I specialize in translating scientific research into commercial AI solutions, with successful applications in targeted sales, healthcare, smart grids, engineering design, and finance. With a strong track record of leading the development of generative AI services, including enterprise-scale language models, text summarization, OCR, speech translation, and speaker diarization, etc., I am committed to enhancing enterprise operations and driving efficiency.
